A Team Approach

As the area leader in providing rehabilitation services, our priority is to deliver the best possible care to our patients. We bring a team approach and a variety of specialists and resources to meet the individual physical, mental and emotional needs of each patient. Physical, Occupational and Speech therapies are provided in our inpatient and outpatient settings.

PHYSICAL THERAPY (PT) - focuses on movement dysfunction. Therapists assist patients in walking, teach wheelchair transfer techniques, and provide orthotic/prosthetic device evaluation and training.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY (OT) - teaches patients self-care skills for activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, eating, and food preparation. Therapists address cognitive (thought) and perceptual (vision) deficits.

SPEECH/LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY - focuses on improving communication skills through basic cognitive retraining to increase functional independence with decision-making, reasoning, memory and swallowing retraining.

PHYSICIAN SERVICES - physicians with specialized experience in physical medicine and rehabilitation, as well as other specialties including Neurology, Internal Medicine and Physiatry.

CASE MANAGEMENT - coordinates your care, works with you and your family regarding plans for discharge and serves as a liaison between the patient, family, insurance carrier, treatment team and community agencies.

REHABILITATION NURSES - assist individuals affected by a chronic illness or physical disability to adapt to their disabilities, achieve their greatest potential and work toward productive, independent lives.

THERAPEUTIC RECREATION SPECIALISTS (TR) - assists with leisure programs to help maintain and improve a patient's physical and emotional well-being.

NUTRITIONAL COUNSELING - assigns our registered dietitian to help patients and families develop proper diets and menus to ensure proper nutrition during and after treatment.

MARRIAGE and FAMILY THERAPY - provides emotional support helping patients deal with the stress created by their health crisis and the adjustments needed by the family when the patient goes home.

RESPIRATORY THERAPY - helps patients with respiratory muscle weakness or a susceptibility to respiratory difficulties to help prevent further respiratory problems.

Rehabilitation Hospital Names New Director of Patient Care Services

Robert �Keith� Ryals

Robert “Keith” Ryals was named Director of Patient Care Services and began his new role March 11, 2013.

Keith graduated with a BS in Public Administration from Georgia College, an Associates Degree in Nursing from Macon State and a BS in Nursing from Georgia College and State University. Over the last 16 years he has worked in several different positions at the Rehab Hospital, but most recently was Assistant Director of Nursing. Mr. Ryals is a lifelong resident of Macon and when he is not working, he enjoys spending time with his three children and 3 grandchildren.

Rehabilitation Hospital Names New Executive Director

Darren PearceDarren Pearce was named Executive Director and began his new role February 18, 2013.

Darren graduated with a BSN and MBA from Valdosta State University. He worked in South Georgia until relocating to Macon in 2006. Over the past 7 ½ years, Darren has been the Director of Patient Care Services.

Asked what he likes most about his job he replies - “What I like most about my job is the collaboration of our rehab team. Everyone is on the same page with the same goal of seeing our patients regain as much independence as possible. As I see patients walk out our door with tears in their eyes because they feel they are leaving their extended family and regaining function they thought they had lost forever, I feel we make a difference every day.
