Welcome to Atrium Health Navicent Pediatrics Residency Program

Our mission is to develop and support new physicians to become confident, caring board-certified pediatricians.

We serve a large catchment area including Middle and South Georgia from the border of Alabama to Florida. We are a referral center for smaller hospitals in those regions which further widens the diversity of pediatric illnesses. Our residents are exposed to patients from urban to rural areas and learn to manage the unique and complex needs of this region. Our goal is to create leaders and pediatric advocates who provide care and create systems to keep ALL the children of Georgia safe and healthy.

Abigail Cruz, MD,
Pediatric Residency Program Director

We intentionally build teams in our hospital, faculty, and residency to reflect the variety of the patient families we serve and to reap the benefits of a range of perspectives, cultures, and life experiences. Through clinical care, journal clubs, didactic sessions and projects, our residents develop skills in wellness, professionalism, and advocacy to leverage a better world for children’s health.

Our residents and attendings are motivated pediatric advocates who understand the importance of teamwork, compassion, and empathy. Ideal candidates should have a strong work ethic, a passion for learning, a commitment to their patients and colleagues, and can see themselves thriving in a smaller city environment. We have no fellows so all patient care and procedures can be performed by the residents with attending supervision. We are proud of our small program and are eager to continuously improve with feedback from our residents, medical students, attendings, and community.
