Direct Your State Tax Dollars to Your Local Hospital

HEART Program Funds Local Hospitals throughout Central Georgia

Residents of central Georgia have the opportunity to support their local hospital by contributing to Georgia's Rural Hospital Organization Tax Credit. By participating in the program, residents can direct their tax dollars to support local hospitals, including the following:

Medical Center of Peach County, Atrium Health Navicent

Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin

Monroe County Hospital, Atrium Health Navicent Partner

Putnam General Hospital, Atrium Health Navicent Partner

Local residents may raise a combined total of $4 million for their local hospital.

"Georgia's rural hospitals have faced a financial crisis in recent years, putting rural Georgians at risk of losing access to local healthcare. The COVID-19 pandemic has proven what we have known for many years - that Georgians need access to quality medical care close to home. Atrium Health Navicent has worked tirelessly for many years to ensure the sustainment of local healthcare options throughout central and south Georgia. We ask central Georgians to partner with us by supporting their hospital through this state tax credit, which will allow your state tax dollars to go directly to the hospital you support," said Dr. Ninfa M. Saunders, President and CEO of Atrium Health Navicent.

Through the Rural Hospital Organization Tax Credit, Georgia taxpayers may receive a state income tax credit for 100 percent of the amount they contribute to qualified rural hospitals. Contributions to the local hospital will enhance care for local residents. Donations may be used for new and upgraded surgical equipment and technology, facility upgrades, and the recruitment of new physicians (and thus the addition of new services) to these counties.

Anyone who pays Georgia income tax is eligible to receive tax credit for contributing to a Georgia rural hospital. To contribute, visit www.GeorgiaHeart.org before December 31, 2020 and complete the following steps:

1. Complete your Georgia HEART 2020 tax credit application at www.GeorgiaHeart.org.

3. DOR will inform you and Georgia HEART of approval within 30 days, indicating the amount for which approval was granted.

4. Georgia HEART will email you detailed instructions on how and where to make your payment.

5. You may claim 100 percent Georgia income tax credit when you file your state income tax return for the year in which the contribution is made.
